COLUMBIA, SC (February 16, 2024) – A group of family and friends, who played Mega Millions® together back in November, are dividing a $1 MILLION prize six ways.
The group’s organizer says several weeks passed before he checked their ticket, a quick pick, that was bought at the Murphy Express at 210 Ricky Ln. in Columbia for the drawing on Friday, November 17 (6, 12, 31, 33, 69 and MB: 17). Their ticket matched the first five numbers drawn, but missed the Megaball® number to win them $1 million.
“I invited everyone to lunch and surprised them with the news,” the group’s organizer said.
The six winners waited until everyone was available to go cash in the winning ticket. And the wait was worth it. Group members are putting their winnings towards things like retirement, savings and vacations.
The odds of winning $1 million playing Mega Millions® are 1 in 12,607,306.
For selling the claimed ticket, Murphy Express #8538 in Columbia received a commission of $10,000.
The estimated Mega Millions® jackpot for Friday night’s drawing is $457 million.
