COLUMBIA, SC (July 25, 2024) – An Upstate couple is looking to buy a new house after winning $200,000 playing the South Carolina Education Lottery.
But their dream home was almost lost.
The wife scratched the $5 lottery ticket the couple bought at the Circle K on E. Main St. in Spartanburg and thought it was a loser. So she threw the ticket away. Her husband spotted the ticket in the trash, took it out and realized the mistake.
“You have a 12 on it,” he yelled to his wife. She scratched the card some more and uncovered the $200,000 win.
The couple told lottery officials they are happy and thankful everything worked out.
The odds of winning $200,000 in the Double Sided Dollars Extra Play game are 1 in 750,000. One more top prize remains in the game.
For selling the claimed ticket, Circle K Stores Inc #2723292 in Spartanburg received a commission of $2,000.
